Choose your lens

Most researchers use a theoretical paradigm to help them understand reality. However, this “lens” affects what they see. Someone using critical theory may focus on power structures, while a positivist may look for observable phenomena and patterns. We all have a lens through which we see the world. Jesus tells a story of a landowner who hires workers for his vineyard at different times of the day but pays them all the same. Those who worked all day complain, and the landowner replies, “I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?… I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you… are you envious because I am generous?” (Matthew 20:13-15). Viewing this story through a lens of power, which the all-day workers do, shows unfairness, whereas a lens of love shows kindness. How we view life impacts what we see and how we behave. And what we read and who we spend time with determines how we view life. Read God’s Word. Spend time with Him and see through a lens of love. It will change your life and the lives of those around you. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Mat20v1-16
