From the beginning, God called Israel for a purpose: to shine His light, bless the nations, guard His truth, reveal the Messiah, and display His holy character. Through Jesus Christ, these purposes are fulfilled and now continued through his followers. Peter reminds us of this calling: “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9). Israel was called to be a light to the nations, revealing God’s truth and holiness. Today, Jesus declares, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). We shine that light through lives that reflect His love, integrity, and grace in a dark world. God also promised that through Israel all nations would be blessed. That promise continues as we bless others through generosity, compassion, prayer, and sharing the hope of the gospel. Israel’s greatest role was pointing to the Messiah. Now, as Christ’s ambassadors, we live to make Jesus known in every area of life. As with Israel, we too are entrusted with God’s Word, called to live by it and pass it on faithfully. As we embrace this calling, we step fully into God’s purpose – carrying His light, truth, and blessing to the world today. (Nicky B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/1Pe2v9, https://bit.ly/Matt5v14
