“Stop! What did you just say?” Sometimes we hear things that cause us to do a double-take. Peter says something double-take worthy. “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” (1 Peter 1:18-19). Did you spot it? If not, read that again. You see silver and gold don’t perish, but blood does. This makes no sense. Yet God’s perspective is not ours. In his eternity, gold and silver don’t last, only his love lasts – and that was shown in Jesus’ sacrifice. It’s crazy. Its not what we would have thought. It’s counter-intuitive. It’s God. What no amount of money, no human brilliance, no human strength could do, the ultimate act of love did. Dying brought life. Death unlocked eternity. Emptiness becomes abundance. Perishing becomes imperishable. Ending become beginning. And it’s all for you. “Stop! What did you just say?”
That’s crazy
