The famine!

The famine!

Famine. Most of us living in first-world countries only know what this means conceptually. For us, food is everywhere whenever we want it. Yet, despite this, we are starving. We are in the midst of the worst famine ever. A famine that is causing despair, suffering, and death, and we don’t even realize what’s killing us. Thousands of years ago, God warned about this famine. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD“ (Amos 8:11). People have forgotten God. His Word no longer feeds them. And so in a world of abundance, we live empty lives. In a world of food everywhere, we are spiritually starving. In a world of endless possessions, we are empty. Real fulfilment, real energy, and eternal health aren’t found in the things we acquire, it is found in God. The only solution to our famine of love, joy, and peace is to feast on God’s freely offered Word. “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.” (Isaiah 55:1-3). What an invitation! Open Bible – http://bit.ly/amo8v11, http://bit.ly/isa55v1-3
