Itchy ears

Itchy ears

Would you rather have people tell you what you want to hear or what you need to hear? Most of us would prefer agreement and affirmation. I recently saw two videos that powerfully illustrated this. The first told the tragic story of the Titan submersible, which was designed to take passengers to view the Titanic. The company’s owner was so convinced he was right that he fired anyone who questioned him. The sub later imploded, killing all on board. The second video focused on mega churches preaching a prosperity gospel, promising riches if people gave generously. Many desperate people gave everything, hoping for financial blessings. The man questioning these teachings was violently removed. Thousands of years ago God warned about this: “Suppose a prophet full of lies would say to you, ‘I’ll preach to you the joys of wine and alcohol!’ That’s just the kind of prophet you would like!” (Micah 2:11). And again, in the New Testament: “For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching… but will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear” (2 Timothy 4:3). Read God’s Word for yourself and hear what you need to hear—it will save your life. Open Bible – bit.ly/Mic2v11 (Craig B)
