How often do we hear people ask, “What is the secret to a happy life?” or “What is the purpose of life?” The Bible offers a clear answer: “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked” (Psalm 84:10). This verse reveals the unmatched value of being in God’s presence. Spending one day with God is better than a thousand anywhere else. The “doorkeeper” may seem like a humble role, but it is one of responsibility and purpose, guarding the house of God—a permanent, secure dwelling compared to the temporary, fragile tents of the wicked. Life in God’s care is purposeful and filled with joy, offering true fulfilment. In contrast, a life apart from Him leads to wickedness, worry, and fleeting satisfaction. Trusting in God’s plan brings us into His eternal dwelling, where we find the true joy we were created to experience.
