Just one thing

Just one thing

For many years, we have lived a nomadic life. In the past two weeks, we have slept in seven different beds. We love the variety, but it also has challenges and is certainly not a lifestyle most people enjoy. One of the challenges is learning to rely on minimal items for day-to-day living. For us, everything must fit into one small case. The benefit is that you quickly learn what you really need. For me, it is some technology, so I can work, a few items of clothing and always, my travel pillow. It got me thinking about what we all really need in life. We live lives full of possessions and activities. But what do we really need? Jesus tells us. Replying to Martha, who was complaining that her sister Mary was sitting and listening to Jesus while she was busy, he said: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42). What will you fit into your one small day today? Whatever else it is, always make time for Jesus.
