The creation story in Genesis is all about the power of the spoken word. Over and over again, we read, “And God said, let there be light”, “Let there be a vault”, “Let there be living creatures…and it was so”. God spoke creation into existence. However, when it comes to the creation of humans, it’s different. “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7). He formed us with his hands. Isaiah puts it like this – “You, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8). God didn’t speak us into existence. He touched us into existence. While words are vital in relationships, touch is more personal and important. We are called to share God’s words but also to touch people’s lives. It’s through kind deeds, a helping hand, and being physically present that we genuinely make a difference. From our creation, we are called to experience God in a real and intimate way. We are called to do this for each other. How will you touch someone’s life today?
