John 17 is one of my favourite chapters in the Bible. It is Jesus’ prayer to our Heavenly Father just before his crucifixion. We read Jesus’ final words just before his betrayal in the garden of Gethsemane in John 17:26 – “And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” What was the name of God that Jesus so perfectly declared and lived throughout his ministry? We find the answer in Exodus 34:6-7 when God reveals his name to Moses on Mount Sinai; “the LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin”. Jesus lived this name every day of His life so the world could see who God is. A God who is full of mercy and grace, who is patient with our weaknesses, who loves us, and forgives us for all our sins. Where we would be consumed with fear and anguish over the cruel, undeserved death we were about to experience, Jesus was thinking and praying about His love for us and His and God’s desire to live in us and share their love with us. In a world full of hatred and betrayal, take a moment to consider this life-transforming invitation. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Joh17v26, http://bit.ly/Exo34v6-7, http://bit.ly/READMore_ (NIcky B)
