Only when you move homes do you realise how much stuff you actually own, especially when downsizing. Clothes, shoes, random bits and pieces, so many possessions that have just collected dust and were never even used. We live in a consumer-driven world, designed to make us want more. Sales run constantly, and targeted adverts follow us everywhere, convincing us we need the next new thing. And with online shopping, it’s become effortless – one click and it’s at your door. But Jesus reminds us of something far more important: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19–21). Moving has made me realise how easily possessions pile up, and how quickly our focus shifts without us even noticing. It’s a reminder to turn our attention from earthly desires and invest in what truly lasts – knowing God, living like Jesus, and loving those around us.
