One of the most well-known of Jesus’ parables is the parable of the sower. He describes seed that falls in various places – pathways, stony ground, thorny soil – and all of it ends up dying. But some seed lands on good soil. Jesus explains, “The seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and…produce a crop.” (Luke 8:15). The message is clear: the abundance we produce depends on where we grow. We need to be planted in Jesus. So if I believe in Jesus, read my Bible, and love my neighbour, will I produce abundance? Yes, but there’s something important about plants. You don’t drop a seed in good soil, give it water and sunlight, and reap a harvest tomorrow. Growth takes time. It takes consistent care. And so, there is a vital word in what Jesus said. He finishes by saying it’s those “who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.” It’s perseverance we are called to. A daily commitment to discipleship. To living in Jesus. In a world of whims and fleeting desires, how is your daily commitment to God? (Craig B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Luk8v15
