Most of us have habits – things we regularly do. Maybe it’s a morning scroll through social media, a walk with the dogs, or a cup of tea before bed. Habits bring routine and comfort, and they’re often something we look forward to. But not all habits are helpful, so it’s worth reviewing them. Establishing and keeping good habits can have a profound impact. One of the best ways to identify good habits is to examine the life of Jesus. The gospels give us glimpses into His habits: “Again crowds of people came to Jesus, and as was his custom, he taught them” (Mark 10:1). “On the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom” (Luke 4:16). “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16). Jesus had three key habits – teaching, fellowship, and prayer. These sustained Him. The early believers made them their habits too, adding a fourth: remembering Jesus’ sacrifice – “They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).
