God’s divine mirror

God’s divine mirror

Reading about the kings of Israel and Judah, it’s striking how one moment they relied on God and prospered, and the next they worshiped idols and fell apart. From the outside it seems obvious – trust God and be blessed, disobey and life falls apart. Yet don’t we do the same? One moment trusting God, the next relying on idols of our own making. How can we see this clearly in ourselves? It’s hard to notice our own faults. Friends may point them out, but often we resist. The only true way is in humility to look into God’s divine mirror, His Word. “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like” (James 1:23–25). Through prayerful reading, His Spirit convicts and opens our eyes. Today, instead of focusing on others’ faults, take a prayerful moment to let God show you your own life through His eyes. Pray this: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” Amen. (Psalm 139:23–24).
