Coaches like to find the best athletes and help them succeed. That’s why it’s rather surprising to hear God say, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). This was God’s reply to Paul when he appealed to Him for help. God doesn’t need us to be strong for him to be powerful. It’s actually when we are weak that God can be most powerful in our lives. When we are struggling with physical, financial, or emotional weakness, that’s when God can truly show his power. It doesn’t mean he will remove our struggle – but he will undoubtedly show what his power can do in our weakness. But maybe the one weakness where God can truly help us, more than any other, is in our spiritual weakness. When our faith is so small, it’s just like a tiny seed (Matthew 17:20). When our belief is so fragile, we cry out, “I believe; but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). It’s even in this that God can work his wonders. So no matter how fragile and weak you are, let’s, along with Paul, say – “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
