Don’t you love the feeling of unwrapping something you have been looking forward to for a long time? Recently, for me, it was a new laptop. After years of enduring my old and somewhat cantankerous machine, I was finally given a new laptop. However, within days of receiving it, the screen malfunctioned. Frustratingly, I turned back to my ol’ original laptop. At first, I could feel the anger and disappointment welling up in me at losing my new laptop so soon. However, as my emotions rose, I suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of peace as I recalled all the blessings that led me to receive the new laptop in the first place. Suddenly, my anger was replaced by gratitude as I considered how truly blessed I am and how there are many greater challenges in the world than my temporary inconvenience. I recalled Paul’s words – “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”. (1 Thessalonians 5:18). He reminds us that even in times of hardship or sadness, we still have much to thank our heavenly Father for. So, the next time something upsets you, rather than dwelling on the negative, let Jesus fill you with his peace and remind you of the incredible blessings God has given you.
