Respect

Respect

“The president Is an idiot”. “There’s that stupid old lady again”. “My dad is so clueless”. We live in a world where respect is an outdated virtue. Children don’t respect parents. Society doesn’t respect the elderly. And most have no respect for leaders. It’s easy to dismiss people based on our judgement of them. However, learning to respect, even when it’s difficult, is fundamental to life and our own success. “Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.” (1 Peter 2:17). This was written when the Jewish nation were living under Roman occupation. It wasn’t the virtue of the leaders that demanded respect, it was God. When we learn to respect God, we will learn to respect others. And when we learn to respect others we will learn to respect ourselves. And when we learn to respect ourselves many of life’s vices and ills disappear. How can you show respect to someone today?
