Walking through fire

Walking through fire

In the early morning, we got the news: the fire was out of control, and the neighboring farmhouse had burned down. Our family’s home, high in the mountains, was at serious risk. Arriving, we were greeted by infernos advancing from the mountain like a terrifying army. Standing there, unable to reach the flames with hoses, we could only watch and pray. Suddenly, a huge team of volunteer firefighters and farm laborers appeared, giving us a chance. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone coming to help. We were told to wait and let the fire come to our defensive line. It was scary watching, but the plan worked, and the fire was stopped at the line. In a world of dangerous fires, I learned we need three things to overcome: faith in God’s care, people who stand with you, and a drawn line of truth. Fires are inevitable, but the good news is we don’t stand alone. “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” (Isaiah 43:2-3).
