Stranger or family?

Stranger or family?

Over the past few months, I’ve experienced two opposite feelings – being a stranger and being family. While travelling in a foreign country, though exciting, it was clear that we were strangers – no one knew us. However, recently we got to visit our old church where we were welcomed like family. It was amazing to see so many loved ones again and share time together. In life we are all on a journey, called to be strangers and pilgrims (1 Peter 2:11). Yet on this journey, we have many opportunities to make the strangers we meet feel like family – sometimes with unexpected blessings: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (Hebrews 13:2). Jesus also said that on judgment day He will recognise those who welcomed Him as a stranger: “I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matthew 25:35). We all long to belong. Today, how can you make a stranger feel welcome? It might just be a message, a call, or a simple smile of kindness.
