When you think of God’s Kingdom, do you think of a place in the future or an experience now in your life? The word “kingdom” in the New Testament is the Greek word “basileia” and it is a verb, not a noun, that means to rule or reign. When Jesus shared the Good News of God’s Kingdom, he was sharing the Good News of God reigning in our hearts and lives today and over the whole earth in the future. Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” (John 3:5). “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23) The good news is “God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves” (Colossians 1:12). So what does living the Kingdom life look like to God’s children today? Paul answers this – “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). It’s experiencing God’s righteousness, peace and joy in every aspect of our life. What incredible, good news.
