Visiting a castle in Europe, I was struck by just how huge these structures are. The walls are not only incredibly thick – enough to build a house on top of them – but they are many stories high. Often when a town was attacked, the inhabitants would all retreat into the safety of the castle. Yet despite the castle’s seemingly unassailable protection, thousands of ruined castles can be seen all over Europe. The high walls, the deep moats, and protecting turrets weren’t enough. And in many ways, it seems that nothing has really changed. When life’s problems attack us, we, too, run to the safety of our “castles” – money, lawyers, advisors, doctors, police, etc. And, while these fortresses may stay off many an attack, invariably, a day will come when these too will fall. And then where will we go to for refuge? David provides the answer. True refuge is only found in one place. “I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalms 91:2). Whatever your troubles, always run first to the eternal fortress – God Almighty – his protection never fails. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/psa91v2
