We have a safari tent nestled beneath an old Natal Fig tree, perched on the edge of a steep cliff. When we visit the Treehouse, after having been away for many months, we are astounded to see how absolutely perfect the condition of everything is inside the sheltered enclosure of the tent. However, we find the cushions stored outside have faded, steel furniture has rusted, decking has mould growing on it, and the wooden furniture has started to rot. We read in Psalms that, “In the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.” (Psalms 27:5). The ravages of time and the storms and dangers of life, bear heavily on all of us. We can easily be overcome as we are worn down. However, God offers us protection. If we make God our refuge and live under His shelter, He will protect us from the trials and temptations of life that can so easily destroy us. He invites us to “hide” within his protective tent. Today, if life’s trials are too difficult, or life’s storms too severe, enter into the welcoming safety of God’s shelter. The difference between outside and inside astounding.
