Do you harbour resentment or anger for a friend, colleague, or family member, somewhere deep in your heart? Only you know the honest answer to this question. However, God knows the answer too. In Proverbs 10:18 we are told, “Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool”. Hiding hatred within us makes us a liar, and liars have no part in God’s kingdom (Revelation 21:8). That’s a harsh judgement. Why would hatred make us a liar? Because hatred speaks to a lack of forgiveness, the very thing we desire from God. And God’s forgiveness requires us to forgive first (Mark 11:25). We can’t stand before God, asking for forgiveness, while harbouring hatred and unforgiveness. Let’s commit to making this a year of forgiveness, a year of healing, a year of Love. How? “Pray for each other so that you may be healed.”(James 4:16). Cover faults with love (Proverbs 10:12). Our love is too thin and tattered to be a covering. Let’s use God’s love to forgive, cover offence, and experience the miracle of his divine peace in our lives.
