Forgiveness is certainly easier said than done, but God calls us to forgive. To forgive our brothers and sisters not just once, not even seven times, but up to seventy times seven. “Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18:21-22). This abundance of mercy is so different to the attitude of Cain’s descendants in Genesis, who were more concerned with vengeance than forgiveness. Lamech, a descendant of Cain, proudly proclaimed that “If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”(Genesis 4:24). Through patterns of vengeance, humanity spiralled towards destruction. However, through patterns of forgiveness, Jesus restored the world. We have been forgiven of a debt we could never repay; let us not forget this when it’s our turn to pick a pattern to follow. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Mat18v21-22, http://bit.ly/Gen4v24 (Jeremy G)
