Trust Him

Trust Him

I’m running, but it’s pointless. The fire roaring through the forest is already passing me on both sides. Choking tendrils of smoke reach out to me as a wave of heat blasts at me. Suddenly up ahead, someone appears standing outside a small wooden hut. “Come inside,” he says. I hesitate. The fire will incinerate this small hut. “Trust me,” he urges. I grab his hand as he pulls me in, just as the fire envelops everything. Inside, it’s cool and fresh, a house of stone. The fire raging past has no impact. Peace and relief wash over me. I look up into the kind eyes of my rescuer. “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him” (Nahum 1:7). Many times in the Bible, we read that God is our refuge, and he certainly is. He is a place we can find safety and rest when the fears and issues of life assail us. However, in this passage, we learn something important “He cares for those who trust in him”. God can only be our refuge if we trust him. We need to put our faith and trust in him when life’s fires are scorching, and then he will become our place of peace and relief. Reach out, grab his hand, and experience his indescribable peace.
