Turn your light on

Turn your light on

Listening to a podcast on our recent road trip, I learnt about the psychological effects of constantly thinking of oneself. The key lesson was that from a psychological perspective, there is no difference between thinking about yourself and being miserable. This reminded me of a video I saw on social media where the speaker made a similar point using an iPhone flashlight. The audience had to try and use the phone as a flashlight while the selfie camera was on. It is not possible. However, once you go off the selfie camera app, you can shine the light again. The point is that when we are inwardly focused, we cannot shine our light and God’s glory on others. Not only can we not shine our light, but by constantly thinking of ourselves, we are creating the same psychological effects of misery in our lives. Of course, God, knowing our purpose, has designed us this way to shine outward and illuminate the darkness. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matt 5:14). So today, follow Jesus’ advice, and let His light shine through you to others. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Matt5v14 (Jeremy G)
