New clothes

New clothes

There is something wonderful about new things. The new smell. The fresh look. The clean feel. But it’s more than this. New, means beginning and that means life. As we draw to the end of the year, we see our world continue to decline – wars, disease, hate, corruption. Yet as humans we survive on hope, however, year after year our solutions don’t work. Jesus shares a parable about clothing – “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old.” (Luke 5:36). It’s a crazy parable. Tearing new clothes to fix old clothes is crazy. It ruins the new and will ruin the old as the patch shrinks when washed and makes the tear worse. Rather the solution is to wear the new clothes. Yet we continue to try patches to fix our world’s problems. We even try patches to fix our problems. Maybe a bit of Jesus here will fix my life. Or a piece of Jesus on Sunday will do the trick. Jesus is a complete solution. A complete garment. We need to discard our old clothes and let him cover us completely (Romans 13:14). And then not only will we have the new smell, we will live a new life. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/luk5v36, https://bit.ly/rom13v14
