The most well-known verse in the Bible is an incredible, life-changing invitation for those who choose to accept it. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). The next verse gives us an amazing insight into the character of our Heavenly Father. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17). However, often, as believers, we fear the judgement to come, believing we’re not worthy of everlasting life. However, in this chapter, God shares three powerful messages – He loves us, He does not want to condemn us, He wants all to be saved through Jesus. In the final moments of Jesus’ earthly life, God demonstrated this to us. The thief on the cross recognised he was a sinner and worthy of death. Yet, with repentance and faith, he turned to Jesus, asking to be remembered in His coming kingdom. Jesus’ answer is not just for the thief but for all who follow the thief’s example of repentance and belief. “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43).
