Life Lottery

How would you feel if you knew you would win $10 million tomorrow? How would you feel if you knew you wouldn’t wake up tomorrow? For most, the horror of the second is worse than the euphoria of the first. This means that waking up alive is worth more than $10 million. Yet how many sacrifice life – health, family, relationships – in the pursuit of wealth? Jesus tells a story of a rich man who won the lottery – well, at least the equivalent in an agricultural society. “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest” (Luke 12:16). However, the jackpot harvest created a dilemma – what to do with all the crops. He could give the extra blessing to the poor, or, “This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.” (Luke 12:18). However, he didn’t factor in that which is worth more than money. “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’” (Luke 12:20). The reason Jesus tells the story is found in the verse before the story – “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15). Life is worth more than any amount of money or possessions. Take a moment to consider what you will prioritise in your life today. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/luk12v20, https://bit.ly/Share2Friends
