Have you ever watched a competition show, like a cooking challenge, where the contestants must race into the pantry and grab as many ingredients as they can to give themselves the best chance at winning? In a winner-takes-all world, success is often determined and defined by those who take the most. It’s quite simply; those who take the most make the most. However, the Bible teaches us a different approach, where it’s not what you take that matters but what you leave. The law has this command: “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 19:9-10). It’s what we leave for others that is the true measure of our worth. What time, money, energy, or resources do you leave at the end of your day for others?
