Iron chariots

Iron chariots

Here is a strange verse from the book of Judges. “The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron.” (Judges 1:19). So there the people sat, living in God’s strength up in the hills, looking longingly and fearfully down at the valley – but unable to go there. What? This makes no sense. How could God be with them, but they couldn’t live in the valley because the enemy had iron chariots? Are iron chariots stronger than God? Read carefully. God was with them, but “THEY were unable” to drive out the people. It was not God whose power was insufficient. As God says elsewhere, “Do I lack the strength to rescue you? By a mere rebuke I dry up the sea…” (Isaiah 50:2). God may be in your life, but what are your iron chariots? The problems too big for God. The unsolvable issues. Remember, it’s not God who can’t, but us who say he can’t. Give him your “iron chariots”, and by a “mere rebuke”, he can remove them from your life.
