It’s a tragic story. David has committed adultery with Bathsheba, who is now pregnant. He arranges for Bathsheba’s husband to be killed in battle. When God condemns his actions, what is David’s response? We see his reply in Psalm 51 – “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” (v1-2, 10-12). David understood the way to redemption was not through hiding his sins or trying to do better in his own efforts. He knew his God. A God who is merciful, filled with unfailing love and compassion. He also understood only God could renew him by filling him with His Holy Spirit. No matter how dark your sin or how far you have strayed from God, remember who God is. Remember what God wants to do for you. All you need to do is turn from your sin, seek forgiveness, and experience renewal in His power. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Psa51 (Nicky B)
