Life is unpredictable, and so are the challenges that come with it. It is important to remember, in these difficult times, that God is an anchor for our souls. He is there to keep us grounded, and he will not let us drift away. In Hebrews 6:18-20, Paul writes, “… we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.” An anchor is used to secure a vessel to prevent it from drifting away and being blown off course in rough seas. It is also essential to prevent drifting when ships are safely harboured. Importantly, the anchor is useless if it remains on deck or dangles in the water. It must be securely attached to be effective. In our lives, many things will offer a place to anchor: money, careers, possessions, friends, status. Let us rather listen to the apostle Paul and choose to anchor our lives in the inner sanctuary and to Jesus our Rock. In Him, we have a sure and secure hope.
