Grafted into life

Grafted into life

Did you know that almost all of the world’s vineyards are grafted into American rootstock? In the late 1800s, a devastating pest nearly destroyed Europe’s vineyards. But American vines, naturally resistant to the pest, became their salvation. The European vines were grafted onto American roots – combining quality fruit above ground with resilience below. This reminds me of the Christian message. No matter how good our fruit may appear, we are not resistant to the ultimate pest – sin. Like those European vines, we must be grafted into a root that can withstand it. That rootstock is Jesus, the true vine. Without Him, we cannot survive, let alone bear lasting fruit. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers” (John 15:5-6). To thrive eternally, we must stay connected to Him, our life-giving root.
