Finding identity

Finding identity

Citizens of a country are issued an identity document. Without this document, you could not travel, get a driver’s license, vote, or even get married. This document determines your identity. Often, we put our value and our identity in earthly possessions. We are defined by our job, the house we live in or maybe even the clothes we wear. In 1 John 3:2, we read, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” As Christians, we should not be defined by earthly possessions but by God and our relationship with Him. This frees us from the need to chase after possessions, status, or approval. We are children of God. Our identity is found by reflecting His character and living according to His purpose. There is no greater identity than this. And, you get issued a divine identity document – “In God’s presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honour of his name. ‘They will be my people,’ says the LORD.” (Malachi 3:16-17).
