Awesome!

Awesome!

“The food is awesome!” Awesome is overused but it actually means to be in awe of something – not just a tasty meal, but something greater than us. Ultimately real awe can only be experienced in the presence of God. Maybe it is because we have closed our eyes to seeing God that we are forced to find awe in the ordinary. At the end of the book of Ecclesiastes, the writer who has been pondering the meaning of life and our foolish endeavors to find happiness, reaches his grand conclusion, “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Fear God and keep his commands. That’s it! This is awe. Looking up to God with absolute reverence, wonder, and respect and then look around with direction, guidance, and hope. Look up. Let God’s greatness become your awesome and you will truly experience awe in a very real way. “God is awesome.”
