Deeper than silver

Deeper than silver

In the 1860s, John Mackay refused to believe the silver mining area near him was exhausted. While others walked away, he drove shafts deeper into unstable, suffocating rock, pushing far beyond what most thought possible, and struck one of the richest silver veins ever found. Thousands of years earlier we were told that people “search out the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness…They tunnel through the rock; their eyes see all its treasures” (Job 28:3,10). For millennia people have gone to extremes to get their hands on silver and gold. Yet there is something far more valuable and lasting that far fewer are prepared to seek with the same resolve. Job 28:12 continues, “But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell?” Wisdom brings blessings that impact our lives now and forever, yet how far do we go to truly find ultimate wisdom? Job continues to say we won’t find it in the deepest mine or in the distant stars. There is only one place ultimate wisdom is found. “The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.” (Job 28:28). Seek God with the same energy you seek career, relationships, and wealth, and you will find the greatest treasures of all. (Craig B)
