We all have someone who has hurt or offended us deeply. It could be from an unkind remark, a rejection, or a decision we did not agree with. Sometimes that hurt cuts so deep that it is hard to let go, and we find ourselves repeating the person’s offence to others. Often, these very people are our close family or friends. Wise King Solomon gave important advice on this matter: “Whoever would foster love covers over an offence, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends” (Proverbs 17:9). When we gossip about someone’s wrongdoing, it shows we have not forgiven them, and our relationship remains broken. Constantly dwelling on past hurts is also harmful to our health and well-being. But when we choose the path of love and forgiveness, we experience renewed friendships, peace, and true healing. Forgiveness is not easy, but it’s not done in our strength but God’s, because “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Whose offence do you need to let go of today?
