Our small Pekingese dogs suffer from a size delusion. They ignore small dogs that bark at them but go crazy when they see a large dog. I’m sure they are hurling all types of insults at the large dog. “Hey, fluffy, what you looking at? Come here, and I’ll teach you a lesson!” And often, the large dog doesn’t take kindly to this. If it did, our small dogs only chance of prevailing would be to choke the larger dog by getting stuck in its throat. However, how many of us also live under a size delusion? Armed with our intellect and resources, we think we are great. We understand many things. We have built amazing things. We are achieving “greatness”. And this causes many to rage against God. To mock his existence. “The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead” (Psalms 10:4). But little do we realise how small we really are—insignificant specks in the cosmic vastness. “But the one who rules in heaven laughs…Act wisely! Be warned…submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry…But what joy for all who take refuge in him!” (Psalms 2:4,10-12).
