Recently I watched as the ashes of my uncle and aunt were laid to rest. A combined life span exceeding 180 years. Lives full of wisdom and impact. Lives lived so fully. Yet all that remains are two handfuls of ash. Everything reduced to this. It strikes me how we truly are nothing. As Solomon put it: “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). The word “meaningless” literally means vapor or breath. He is saying life is just air, vapor, nothing. It’s a bleak outlook, especially as I consider all the years, wisdom, events, and memories now gone. All reduced to ashes. And sadly for many without God this is their reality, a life that is utterly meaningless. Yet all it takes is one thing to change meaningless to meaning, void to full, ashes to life. All it takes is belief, belief in Jesus: “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying” (John 11:25). We believe in so many things in our world – the media, leaders, friends, social media, yet none of these can give hope. Only one belief is needed, and it will change your ashes to life eternal. Believe in Jesus. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/ecc1v2-3, https://bit.ly/Joh11v25 (Craig B)
