I spent many years of my academic life developing and teaching educators to apply an activated classroom teaching approach. The basic idea was that learning is much more effective when it is active. But to do this, we need approaches that activate teaching and learning. It seems obvious that our minds are awakened when activated, but we tend to do the opposite when we teach and learn. God invites us to experience Him in an activated way. “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalms 34:8). He wants an activated relationship. Jesus invited Thomas to touch him – “Put your finger here; see my hands” (John 20:27). We can activate our experience of God with everything around us. Smell a flower and experience the scent of your prayer to God. Touch a tree trunk and feel the steadfast strength of God. Swim in a refreshing stream and experience the renewing grace of God’s Spirit. That “which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched…the Word of life” (1 John 1:1). How will you activate your experience of God today?
