Early mornings

Early mornings

This year has been filled with early mornings for me. Waking up at the crack of dawn to miss rush hour traffic on the way to work. Even during the early hours of the morning, I am not alone during my commute; almost every lane is already bustling with bleary-eyed employees on their own routes to work. Like an army of ants, we descend toward the city, ready to return home in the evening after a day’s labour. This reminded me of the diligent ant in Proverbs: “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest” (Proverbs 6:6-8). We too are called to be diligent and disciplined like the ant, in many aspects of our lives, including our faith. Let us remember the words Jesus said to His disciples: “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).
