We plan our anniversaries, birthdays, retirements, and events as if we control time and space. Yet, the psalmist reminds us: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). What a request! To number our days is not simply to count them but to see them from God’s perspective. It is about taking stock of how we live and dedicating our efforts to serving the Lord. When we reflect on our days with God’s guidance, we realise how brief life is and how important it is to live with purpose. Each day is a gift, an opportunity to glorify Him through our work and actions. This requires humility and a willingness to align our plans with His will. Without this, we risk wasting our days on pursuits that hold no eternal value. By allowing God to guide us and shape our priorities, we gain the wisdom to live effectively and meaningfully. Let us make this request our prayer and commit to taking stock of our service to Him each day. When we do, we will truly live with the heart of wisdom that only God can provide.
