Pursue or ensue?

Pursue or ensue?

I was listening to an interesting discussion on the Blue Zones. These are small areas scattered around the world where there are an unusually high number of people who live over 100. While discussing their food and lifestyles, the researcher said, “These people don’t pursue long life, it ensues”. Meaning that they don’t try and live long. They simply live a healthy, active life, and therefore, they live long. Most of us pursue the good things of life – nice clothes, cars, houses. We hope getting these will bring us a good life. But invariably, we never get that which we pursue. Jesus tells us what to do. After having spoken about all the things we concern ourselves with in life, he said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). Live a spiritually healthy life, and real goodness will ensue. “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” (Psalms 23:6).
