Life often feels like a circle – Monday to Sunday, back to Monday. Repeat. Solomon lamented about the meaningless of it all, saying, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). However, life is not really a circle as the vertical dimension, time, only goes forwards. Our daily circles are circles within direction – spiralling either downward like a whirlpool or upward like a whirlwind – the difference is up to us. Without God in our life, the spiral is like a whirlpool sucking us down into the depths of oblivion. However, with God in our life, we can be lifted up, like Elijah of old who “went up to heaven in a whirlwind” (2 Kings 2:11). God holds out an incredible offer. The spirals of life will continue, but God offers to lift us up to a different perspective – a perspective that sees life from above, from the divine. “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). Don’t get stuck in the downward spiral of the world’s narrative; read God’s Word and let Him lift you up and show you His divine, life-altering perspective.
