The alarm

The alarm

The howling of the alarm shatters my sleep. I leap out of bed and reach for the only light I can find, my cellphone. We are staying at an AirBnB, and the owner had informed us she would arm the alarm. Being unfamiliar with alarms and the house causes great confusion as I stumble down wrong passages and fumble with doors. Finally, I shine the ineffective light of my phone into the darkness. Only then do I realise it’s not our alarm but one across the road. On reflection, I realize I just wasn’t prepared. I had no proper light. I didn’t know my way around the house. We are warned that Jesus will return in a similar way. “For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Will his return find you unprepared? Will you have your light ready? “At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’ “All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’ (Matthew 25:6-8). The dark night is upon us. Keep God’s Word shining in your life (Psalm 119:105) so you will be prepared when the trumpet call shatters even the sleep of the dead (1 Corinthians 15:52).  Open Bible – https://bit.ly/1th5v2, https://bit.ly/mat25v6-8, https://bit.ly/psa119v105, https://bit.ly/1co15v52
