What foundation do you build your life on? Your career, your reputation, your wealth? I recently showed my parents the impact of the flood we had last year. They were shocked to see the destruction caused by just five hours of torrential rain. What had stood firm for decades was destroyed in five short hours. Jesus tells us in the last days, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:7-8). When a woman is in labour, it means the baby is about to arrive. Just as labour pains come faster and faster, so too, Jesus tells us; when we see these events, we know his return is very near. There will be no time to prepare. If we are building our life on the world and its desires, we will be destroyed, but if our foundation is Jesus we will stand firm forever. “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25).
