Did you know that light has dual properties of a wave and a particle? Scientifically, the theory states that light possesses both wave and particle characteristics, but we cannot observe both at the same time. “How can something be two things at once?” I asked myself. The theory got me thinking of a spiritual principle I often struggle to reconcile: the fact that we are already part of the new creation through Christ, yet are still stuck in our sinful nature here on earth, subject to our human vices and temptations. We read, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are both redeemed and blameless through Christ, but presently living in our same physical bodies. The observer’s perspective may be key, as God sees us through the covering of Christ, as the wave of the new creation, even though we may individually view ourselves as a single sinner. Interestingly, we are called “Children of the Light” (1 Thessalonians 5:5), so the link between scientific and spiritual principles may be closer than we think.
