When landscape architects watched preschoolers at play, they noticed something striking: in an open field without a fence, children clung close to their teacher, but once a boundary was added, they scattered joyfully to explore. Psychologists explain that limits don’t cage us, they steady us. Boundaries give the safety we need to venture boldly. God, our designer, built this truth into creation. In Eden He said, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden (freedom); but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (boundary)” (Genesis 2:16–17). Yet today’s world believes breaking God’s laws brings freedom, when in truth it brings fear and confusion. God’s commands are not there to restrict us, but to protect us and help us truly flourish. “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance” (Psalm 16:6). True freedom is found in walking with God, devoted to His ways. “I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments” (Psalm 119:45).
