Sport provides a fascinating lens into teamwork. Watching football, one of the quickest lessons learned is that no matter how many star players are on a team, if the manager cannot create the right balance, they will lose to lesser opponents. The same applies to family. We must trust those who raised us, as they provide the game plan they know is best for us. Their instructions may not always be what we want to hear, but they are given for our benefit and the strength of our family—our team. “Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12). The key to an abundant life is found in valuing the wisdom of our parents, our first teachers. When we hold onto their lessons, our family remains strong in a world that seeks to divide.
