The danger within

The danger within

We are all aware of the danger of crime. And so we try and protect our homes with walls, burglar guards, and alarms. However, what if the criminal is living in your home? That seems ridiculous. But that’s the warning of the Psalmist. “Its walls are patrolled day and night against invaders, but the real danger is wickedness within the city. Everything is falling apart; threats and cheating are rampant in the streets.” (Psalms 55:10-11). This is a warning to us. Not about physical dangers but moral and spiritual dangers. We may spend our lives seeing the sins and wickedness in the world around us but fail to see the real danger within. Jesus warned us – “For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” (Matthew 15:19). Of course, we must avoid evil. But ultimately, the issue we have to deal with is in our own hearts. The solution is not protection on the outside but on the inside. Invite God in, and everything will change. “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23).
